A Zurich institution, the Frauenbadi is a women-only outdoor swimming pool on the Limmat river in the heart of the city.
If you’re feeling the heat, it’s a lovely place to cool down on a summer’s day. The refreshing, clean waters of the Limmat are enhanced by beautiful views of Grossmünster and the Old Town.
By night, the venue transforms into a cool bar and open air disco with a supremely laid back vibe.
The Oberer Letten is where hip young things gather of a summer’s evening to hang out and enjoy a dip in the river.
A busy bar and grill serves tasty snacks and cold beers: if you’re lucky, you’ll find a table but if not, there’s plenty of room on the steps. All you need to do is jump and let the current float you gently down the stream.
Badi Enge Sauna am See
If you would like to make the most of the lake during your time in Zurich, Seebad Enge is a good place to start.
In summer, you can take advantage of mixed or female-only swimming facilities, which offer direct access to the lake. Diving boards are for the most adventurous or you can enjoy an outdoor yoga class.
It’s a great place to visit in the evening and enjoy a swim, a cold beer and a lovely view of the lake.
An all-year round favourite, the Hürlimann Spa is an oasis of well-being in a former distillery. The facilities include mineral thermal baths, a herbal hammam and an Irish-Roman spa and sauna circuit, as well as the option to book private treatments.
The undisputed highlight is the rooftop Jacuzzi, which offers a superb view over the city and the lake.
Open from May to September, the lakeside bathing area at Tiefenbrunnen is the largest in the city and a great place to take kids.
The facilities include everything from lockers and changing rooms to outdoor table tennis, waterslides and a shallow children’s pool. Shady trees, well-kept grass and an ice cream kiosk make it a safe and enjoyable place for a family day out.
