Melasma, skin imperfections and aesthetic treatments

We talk to Dr Blum of Clinic Lémanic, one of Switzerland’s top clinics, to find out more about brown spots and what solutions his clinic can provide.
We are increasingly aware of the dangers of too much sun for our skin, but we haven’t always been so well informed.

Previous exposure to the sun may have left spots or marks which, as well as being unsightly, can be indications of more serious health issues.

So how do we recognise different skin conditions and what can be done to treat them? Dr. Blum of Clinic Lémanic joins us to share his expert advice on the topic.

1. Are all brown spots the same?

No. A brown spot or mark on the skin can be the result of several different conditions.

Some dark spots are caused by too much pigmentation in the skin, which can be caused by overexposure to the sun. Some spots could be caused by an infection some are even the early indications of a skin cancer.

Since there are so many possibilities for the cause of a brown spot, it’s very important to be examined by an expert, to ensure that the treatment given is appropriate.

2. What is melasma?

Melasma is a skin condition most often seen in women, which affects the skin on the face. It causes dark spots or patches to appear on the face.

There are various different reasons for melasma to occur. Some factors are external, such as physical trauma or exposure to UV rays from the sun or a tanning bed.

Internal factors, especially hormonal imbalance, can also cause the appearance of the condition.

Since there are so many possibilities for the cause of a brown spot, it’s very important to be examined by an expert.
