Museum for contemporary photography Winterthur

Fotomuseum Winterthur is considered one of the most attractive spots for photography in Europe. It is a gallery dedicated to photography by contemporary photographers and a classical museum for the work of 19th and 20th century master photographers.

It is also a cultural-historical and sociological museum for applied photography from the areas of industry, architecture, fashion etc.

Fotomuseum Winterthur – founded in 1993 – is also building up a collection of contemporary photography that is constantly presented in specially curated shows.

Some of the most important exhibitions of the recent years were “Zoe Leonard – Photographs”, “Sergey Bratkov – Glory Days” or “Alec Soth – Sleeping by the Mississippi”.

Following the huge retrospective of French Photographer Eugène Atget (1857-1927), Fotomuseum Winterthur is showing in 2009 another classic of documentary photography: Walker Evans (1903-1975).

Fotomuseum Winterthur, together with Fotostiftung Schweiz, forms a centre of excellence for photography, complete with library, art education programs, lounge, seminar rooms, bistro and shop.
